Before you ask

Does LayerMate upload my models?

No — nothing leaves your computer. Scanning, thumbnails, and search all happen locally on your machine. The only network activity LayerMate does on its own is checking for app updates.

What files does it support?

STL, OBJ, 3MF, G-code, and STEP/STP — with real multi-plate 3MF support and optional STEP rendering in Settings.

Can LayerMate scan network drives or a NAS?

Yes — point it at any mapped network folder and it indexes it like a local one. See LayerMate Connect above.

Is it a subscription?

No. One payment of $19.99, and every future update is included — forever.

How many computers can I install LayerMate on?

Up to two — a laptop and a desktop, or a Mac and a PC, for example. Your licence key covers both. Swapping to a new machine? Email support@layermate.app and we'll free up a slot.

Does LayerMate move or rename my files?

Not by default — it indexes files where they already live and leaves them alone. If you want, advanced settings can allow LayerMate to move or rename files for you. It still never uploads anything.

More questions
How are duplicates detected?

By the file's actual contents, not its filename — so renamed or re-downloaded copies still get caught.

Does LayerMate work on Mac or Linux?

Yes to both. Linux is an AppImage — see the guide for setup. Mac is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens with no security warnings.

What if it's not for me?

Email support@layermate.app — refunds aren't automatic, but every request gets a fair, individual review.
